Double row spherical roller bearing: how it works

A spherical roller bearing is a double row spherical roller bearing by construction: two rows of barrel-shaped rollers run on a common spherical raceway in the outer ring and on two inclined raceways in the inner ring. Because the outer raceway is a sphere centred on the bearing axis, the inner ring, rollers and cage can tilt relative to the outer ring. That is what makes the bearing self-aligning, to an angle that depends on series and load and is published by the maker for each series, and it is why the type is used where shafts deflect or housings are not machined in one setting.

The two rows share the radial load and take axial load in both directions through the inclined inner raceways. The rollers are long and many, so the dynamic and static ratings are several times those of a ball bearing with the same bore, at the cost of higher friction and a lower speed limit. The bore of 50 mm below shows what the series buys you.

  • Cylindrical bore: press fit on a machined shaft seat with a shoulder.
  • Tapered bore (K, 1:12; K30, 1:30): mounted on an adapter or withdrawal sleeve, clearance set by drive-up.
  • W33: lubrication groove and three holes in the outer ring for relubrication through the housing.
  • Clearance C3 is the usual group for sleeve mounting; C4 for vibrating screens and heavy interference fits.

Spherical roller bearing supplier: what ENRO lists and how to match a number

As a spherical roller bearing supplier ENRO lists 231 sizes, each with cylindrical or tapered bore and the W33 groove, from 25 mm to 500 mm bore. The five digits of the number fix the boundary dimensions under ISO 15, so a number from any other catalogue with the same five digits is dimensionally interchangeable with the ENRO size: use the bearing cross reference to confirm it, then order the K or cylindrical version and the clearance group you need. Cage and internal design letters from other catalogues do not change the size, but tell us what they were.

The bearing supplier page lists every series with its bore range; the deep groove ball bearing page covers the ball bearing line for motors, pumps and hubs on the same machines. Three guides go deeper: the size chart by series, the clearance chart with ISO 5753-1 values, and the bearing number decoder. Spare-part lists that write the item as bearing spherical roller double row are describing this line. Load ratings, limiting speeds and weights are catalog reference values. Values are confirmed per batch on request.

Buyer notes

What to check before you order

A cylindrical bore mounts directly on the shaft. A K suffix means a 1:12 tapered bore for an adapter or withdrawal sleeve; K30 is a 1:30 taper used on wide series.

Sleeves are ordered separately.

FAQ

Spherical Roller Bearing FAQ

What is a spherical roller bearing used for?

Spherical roller bearings carry heavy radial loads and some axial load while tolerating shaft misalignment and deflection. Typical uses include gearboxes, conveyors, vibrating equipment, fans, pumps and heavy industrial machinery.

What are the key differences between spherical and cylindrical roller bearings?

Spherical roller bearings have two rows of barrel-shaped rollers and a spherical outer raceway, so they self-align and take axial load in both directions. Cylindrical roller bearings carry higher radial load for their size and higher speeds, but tolerate very little misalignment and most designs take little or no axial load.

What are the disadvantages of spherical roller bearings?

They allow lower speeds than ball bearings of similar size, have higher friction, are wider and heavier, and axial load capacity is limited compared with thrust designs.

What is the difference between ball and roller bearings?

Balls touch the raceway at a point, rollers along a line. Ball bearings run faster with less friction; roller bearings carry more load for the same size.

Where are ENRO bearings made?

ENRO bearings are Made in China by partner factories, under Japan-managed quality control. Every unit passes 100% outgoing inspection before shipment.

Can you match a part number from another brand?

Send any part number and we'll match the dimensionally equivalent ENRO model. Matching is by boundary dimensions only (dimensionally interchangeable).

What are your payment terms?

Payment terms are as set out in the sales contract.

Can you send a spec sheet before I order?

Every model page is the spec sheet: boundary dimensions, r min, the versions offered and catalog reference ratings where confirmed. Send the model number and we will confirm the values for your order in writing.

Do you list internal clearance per model?

Clearance groups follow ISO 5753-1 (C2, CN, C3, C4, C5). Model pages list the versions ENRO offers; the clearance group available for a given model and quantity is confirmed on the RFQ.

Which HS code applies to ENRO bearings?

Ball bearings fall under heading 8482.10 and spherical roller bearings under 8482.30; the code is shown on the model page where listed for the type. Your broker confirms the national tariff line for your destination.
