Wheel hubs

Wheel positions see water and road dirt, so sealed 2RS bearings are the usual choice. Replace both bearings in a hub together.

02

Transmission and engine

Gearbox bearings run in oil. Open or shielded versions are common there; follow the original part.

03

Checking a worn bearing

Play when rocking the wheel, a rumbling noise that changes with speed, or rough rotation are the usual signs of a worn wheel bearing.

Selection notes

Motorcycle bearing range and series: 62 and 63 series from 12 to 25 mm bore

The motorcycle bearing range is the small end of the deep groove ball bearing list. Wheel hubs, swing arm pivots, steering stems, gearbox shafts and crankshafts on most machines commonly run on 62 and 63 series bearings with bores between 12 and 25 mm, because that is the range of shaft diameters those parts use. The 62 series is the medium section and covers most hubs and gearboxes; the 63 series has a larger outside diameter and higher ratings for the same bore and is used at crankshafts and at the rear hub of heavier machines. ENRO lists 0 sizes in this window, and each model page gives the dimensions, the ratings and the versions listed.

Sizes outside this window do appear: 60 series bearings in some front hubs and small 68 or 69 series thin bearings in instruments and clutch actuators. They are on the deep groove ball bearing page; the range above is where nearly every motorcycle enquiry lands.

Which bearing motorcycle hubs, transmissions and engines use

Motorcycle bearing sizes are small deep groove ball bearings in the 62 and 63 series with 12 to 25 mm bores. Wheel hubs almost always use a sealed 2RS bearing, one each side of the hub, because the position sees water and road dirt and is not regreased. Transmission and engine positions run in oil, so the original is usually open or shielded. The table lists the sizes ENRO carries with a motorcycle application, taken from the model pages.

Replace both hub bearings together, even if only one is noisy: they have run the same distance and the second will follow. Measure the old bearing rather than trusting the model year, because hubs change between markets. The full list is on the deep groove ball bearing page; the bearing supplier page shows every series with its bore range, and the bearing cross reference matches a number from another catalogue by size. How to identify a motorcycle bearing without a readable marking

Hub bearings lose their marking to rust and seal wear, and gearbox bearings are often stamped only on the face that sits against a shoulder. Pull the old bearing, clean the rings and measure three dimensions: bore with a caliper on the inner ring, outside diameter across the outer ring, and width across both rings. Round to the nearest millimetre and look the three numbers up in the size finder; standard sizes are far enough apart that a caliper reading is enough. Note whether the old bearing had seals on both sides, a shield, or nothing, because the hub needs the same closure again.

  • Bore 12 mm and outside 32 mm: 6201; 15 × 35: 6202; 17 × 40: 6203; 20 × 47: 6204; 25 × 52: 6205.
  • Same bore with a larger outside diameter is the 63 series: 12 × 37 is 6301, 15 × 42 is 6302.
  • Width is the check digit: a 6202 is 11 mm wide, a 6302 is 13 mm. A 62 and a 63 bearing of the same bore will not swap.
  • Two rubber lips visible on each side means 2RS; a flat steel ring means ZZ; visible balls means open.

If two of the three dimensions match but the third does not, the bearing is not a standard size and a photo of the old part with the enquiry is faster than guessing. The size finder accepts the three measurements directly; the bearing size chart lists every ENRO size in bore order.

Specifications and boundary dimensions

Built to be checked, not believed. Boundary dimensions follow the ISO 15 dimension series. Ratings follow ISO 281 and clearance groups ISO 5753-1; every value on a model page can be checked against the standard.

FAQ

Motorcycle Bearing FAQ

What is a bearing on a motorcycle?

Motorcycles use bearings in the wheel hubs, gearbox, engine and steering head. Wheel and gearbox positions typically use sealed or shielded deep groove ball bearings.

Which bearing is used in a motorcycle?

It depends on the model and position. Sizes such as 6201, 6202, 6203, 6204, 6205, 6301 and 6302 are common in wheel hubs, transmissions and small engines. Check the marking on the old bearing or measure d, D and B, then match the size.

How to know if a motorcycle wheel bearing is bad?

Typical signs: play when you rock the wheel side to side, a grinding or rumbling noise that changes with speed, rough or notchy rotation with the wheel off the ground, and grease leaking past the seal.

Where are ENRO bearings made?

ENRO bearings are Made in China by partner factories, under Japan-managed quality control. Every unit passes 100% outgoing inspection before shipment.

Can you match a part number from another brand?

Send any part number and we'll match the dimensionally equivalent ENRO model. Matching is by boundary dimensions only (dimensionally interchangeable).
